Impersonation & Fake Profile Policy

Preventing impersonation, misleading identity claims, and fake profiles on the IBBF platform.

Organization: Indian Business Betterment Foundation
Type: Platform Policy Document
Applies To: All Users & Businesses
Last Updated: 8 April 2026
Section 1

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to prevent impersonation, misleading identity claims, and creation of fake or deceptive profiles on the IBBF platform.

IBBF aims to maintain transparency and reliability of business and user information published on the platform.

Section 2

Scope

This policy applies to all profiles and information created or submitted on the IBBF platform, including:

  • Business profiles
  • User submissions related to business information
  • Consumer complaints and reviews referencing businesses
  • Attempts to claim or manage a business profile
Section 3

Business Profile Creation

Business profiles on IBBF may be created through:

  • Businesses registering their own profiles, or
  • Users submitting complaints or reviews that reference a business

When a business profile is created through user submissions, the profile may initially contain limited or publicly available information until verified or claimed by the business.

Section 4

Claiming a Business Profile

Businesses may claim their profile on the platform by completing the required verification process and providing necessary documentation where applicable.

Once the verification process is completed and approved, the business may gain access to manage certain aspects of its profile.

Verification is triggered from the Business Dashboard — not at the listing stage. Claiming a profile requires identity verification and relevant documentation.
Section 5

Impersonation and Misrepresentation

The following activities are not permitted on the IBBF platform:

  • Creating a profile that falsely represents a business or organization
  • Claiming to be an authorized representative of a business without proper authorization
  • Submitting information that intentionally misleads users about a business identity
  • Creating duplicate or misleading profiles intended to deceive users
Section 6

Detection and Review

IBBF may review profiles and submissions to identify potential impersonation or misleading information. Review may be triggered through:

  • Internal moderation checks
  • Reports submitted by users or businesses
  • Inconsistencies detected in profile information
Section 7

Actions Taken

If a profile is suspected to be fake, misleading, or created through impersonation, IBBF may take actions including:

Clarification Requested
Documentation requested from party
Profile Restricted
Removed from public visibility
Profile Archived
Misleading content archived

All actions are taken to maintain platform accuracy and integrity. Archived profiles and content are retained on the backend — nothing is permanently deleted.

Section 8

Reporting Impersonation

Businesses or users who believe a profile misrepresents their identity may report the issue to IBBF. Reports should include sufficient information to identify the profile and explain the concern.

IBBF may review the request and take appropriate action where necessary.

To report impersonation, visit the Contact Us page and select the appropriate department.
Section 9

Platform Neutrality

IBBF operates as a neutral platform documenting business information and consumer experiences. The platform does not independently verify every business profile unless a verification process is completed.

Users are encouraged to review available information and documentation when evaluating a business.

Section 10

Policy Updates

IBBF may update this policy periodically to reflect changes in platform operations or moderation practices. The updated version will be published on the platform.

Section 11

Disclaimer

IBBF maintains records of business profiles and consumer submissions to promote transparency.

Actions taken under this policy are intended to maintain platform integrity and do not constitute legal judgments or regulatory determinations.

IBBF is an independent, non-government platform documenting consumer experiences and business information. Content reflects user submissions and does not constitute legal advice, endorsement, or determination of fault or liability.
